“I don’t want to bring it up, but I don’t want to lie." –Roni Caryn Rabin, "Cancer Survivors
Struggle to Find Jobs, Study Finds," New York Times  February 17, 2009

Welcome to jobsforsurvivors.net, the site that brings together job seekers who have survived illnesses such as cancer and employers committed to including them as potential employees.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) employers are prohibited from asking applicants about their medical history or requiring disclosure of medical information. In practice, people with problematic medical histories have gaps in employment that are difficult to explain straightforwardly, especially in interviews, without going into medical history.

How can job seekers find work without going into medical history, and employers recognize highly qualified and serious applicants whose employment gaps may seem misleading?

The solution is right here.

Post open positions on this site in addition to other listings. Applicants will signal the medical context for their job history gap by mentioning the site, alerting you to the situation and thus keeping the conversation within the ADA guidelines.
